Final musings sitting in the CDG airport on the way home from Meribel. For an entire week I didn’t see one lift breakdown . They have 183 lifts of all shapes sizes and makes . While watching social media at home all I saw was lift break downs and missing ski days . The stat I read is that the Les 3 vallees system serves 265k people a day. We never waited more than 10 minutes . There are zero lifties. It takes some getting used to but everyone gets on the lift chaotically but fast .

The crazy thing for a first time European skier was the lack of safety. It really slowed me down knowing that if I were to wipe out at 50+ mph I could end up down a ravine and off a cliff . My 12 year old terrified me all week who is sowing his oats with speed trying to keep up with his 15 yr old brother . The sledding at night on the mountain would get an American mountain sued into the Stone Age. Everyone gets drunk and sleds on the mountain and it’s encouraged. Absolutely amazing .

The drinking in general on French mountains is 100100101x worse than American mountains . People staggering drunk trying to get down the hill. The lunches at Michelin star restaurants were mind blowing . I have no idea what we spent on food but it certainly negated the lift ticket savings .

The grooming blows away American mountains. Europeans never do first chair and if you could temper your apres you could get absolute corduroy perfection for an hour before a European showed their face .

There’s no roof rack on a hearse and my kids can skip college. I don’t think I can ski at Attitash in -10 ever again.

No one wears masks in Europe . First masks we’ve seen in a week in the Delta line coming home to Boston.

For me it's a toss up between PD II (Feb 2003) and December 2009. Both events I experienced in Philadelphia and Lancaster County, PA respectively.

PD II: I was in high school in Philly just got into winter weather tracking and had access to the Internet at my high school library for the last period of the day. The librarian was always gracious enough to let me just quietly geek out on model guidance and NWS web pages. Watching this storm get more and more interesting as we closed on the end of the work week was awesome.

December 2009: I was working 2nd into 3rd shift at the IT Help Desk at Millersville University and got paid to do homework and watch both the 18z and 00z model guidance come in on a triple monitor display with a nice Internet connection. I was also was a lead forecaster for our campus weather service at the time, and we had access to a read-only version of NWS chat. It was just pure giddiness to watch the 1.5" QPF line creep north with each model cycle, reach the AFDs from LWX/CTP/PHI and see the inklings of watches or warning start to come up in the chat rooms. I felt like I had access to almost secret data and it was AMAZING! Then came the morning before the event and I knew it was going to puke snow all along Mason-Dixon. It was the end of my undergraduate years and I was supposed to walk in graduation on the 19th, but I knew that wasn't going to happen. So I rushed back to Philly and boom...White Christmas.

Something I posted on American Weather on Nov 22 because I am sick of hot weather in Texas in late November.

I got the Cure for that. It can torch Nino all it wants then NIno to Eternity.

All you need is a place called Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort or the Canadien Rockies at 16,000 feet in January. It would be -20 Fahrenheit, 175 mph winds and blinding snow and the skiing's great in the Canadien Rockies, real pow snow and no melting for 11.9 months out of the year. No one has to put up with global warming no longer, It will never be too warm for snow and winter in the Sierra, the Cascades or the Canadien Rockies or especially the Brooks Range in Alaska. You go high enough in the Rockies snow NEVER melts.

I'm crazy as all hell but I still want an all-out Ice Age, with snow 13,000 feet deep, 100 mph winds and -100 degree cold. I am no better than I was in high school. The school board kicked my sorry ass out of Gar Field High in 1981. I just would not stop taking weather readings in class or drawing cross sections of cold fronts displacing hot air and changing rain to torrential snow. There was one particular incident in Mr. Levine's Earth Science class while I was in the 10th Grade where I was so obsessed with taking weather obs in class that I stuck my hand out the window to sling around a sling psychrometer. I was trying to get a wet bulb temperature reading, and I wanted to do this in class. It was Earth Science, after all. After that day EVERYONE called me Weatherman. I also got put on detention for disruption of class. In middle school and high school I was always in trouble for trying to take weather observations during class and simply going on and on about cold fronts changing rain to snow, drawing cross sections of weather fronts in class, and tending to walk around outside the school in the mornings just because it was cold and I loved it! In Gar-Field High I was consistently tardy to home room because I was out jebwalking in the cold weather in the morning. I knew that Main Office like the back of my hand, and everyone in there was sick and tired of The Weatherman.

I am sick to death of summer in November in Texas. I am back to wishing for an all-out AMOC Shutdown and the return of an Ice Age Earth, associated with a PERMANENT GLACIAL maybe lasting a few hundred million years. We can always live in the deep underground military bases if need be. We can defeat the hybrid creatures that live in the deeper levels 4 miles down, They have a Mach 2 maglev transport system under there and it is global. I demand: snow 13,000 feet deep, minus 100 degree high temps, and constant blasting by severe gales and 200 story drifts in a milkshake-like environment. This was the way I expressed myslef in high school and it is no surprise I finally got my ass kicked right out of the public school system, in 1981 when I was in 11th Grade. They'd had enough. Well, I have had enough of summer in November. It'll be summer in Texas the next three months. I'm fed up. I want extreme cold deep ice and snow and watch everyone fall down and bust their tailbone! All while I happily blast Ken Carson at 200 decibels!

This has been a classic Jebman Presentation, 2025 I'm Tired of Summer Edition.

Carry on.

First I had a dream about mom making me do stuff and it was kind of like 20 years ago when I wanted to go out look around, and I got oh I love bad stuff thinking. I also dreamed about this guy who could ride along under the water 2 feet under yet see everyone really good who was not in the water. I also dreamed about this lady and this guy clotheslined her knocking her back over the hood of a big car whole body wise and I thought that was a bad way to treat a lady.
